Peers started his footballing career at Blackburn Rovers, and later moved to Mansfield Town, where he earned 30 appearances. He has also been capped for Ireland at under age level and U23 level. He was educated at St Kevins C.B.S in Ballygall, Dublin.
Peers was signed for Rovers by Sean Connor following the clubs promotion to the Premier Division and played regularly at right-back that year. The following year following the departure of centre-backs Michael McNamara and Liam Burns Peers moved into the centre of defence and has been the rock at the heart of Rovers defence ever since. He leads from the back with his commanding headers and brave blocks and had a short spell as club captain. Injuries forced Peers to miss much of the 2009 season and his presence was badly missed at times. He did recover in time to take his place in the team for the FAI Cup final of that year, however it would end in disappointment with Sporting Fingal winning 2–1.
The following year was much better with Peers playing consistently and Rovers having a fantastic season that saw Peers play in both the FAI Cup and League of Ireland Cup finals. Peers played a major role in the FAI Cup victory by scoring the winning goal in the 1–0 semi-final win over Bohemian at Dalymount Park. Peers was also picked to represent a League of Ireland XI that played Manchester United in the first ever game at the Aviva Stadium. That ended in disappointment for Peers but he would return there to lift the FAI Cup just a few months later. Following the departure of Conor O'Grady at the end of the 2010 season Peers became the clubs longest serving player.
Correct as of 7 November 2011.
